Introducing Optomap Wide Field Imaging

We are proud to be the first practice in Fife to offer Ultra Wide Imaging of the eye

Image over 80% of the Retina

The wide field imaging on the Optmap allows us to image ~200° at the back of your eye - this is about 5x more than with conventional methods

Imaging with Laser technology

Optomap technology uses two low-power lasers—red and green—to scan your retina in incredible detail. These lasers allow us to capture images of different layers within the retina, helping us spot changes or abnormalities that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Layer Isolation

  • The green laser highlights the surface layers of the retina, where signs of conditions like diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration often appear.

  • The red laser penetrates deeper layers, helping us examine the choroid—the layer rich in blood vessels beneath the retina—where other problems like retinal tears or detachments can develop.
